Donna Lyon, PhD, is a film producer and senior lecturer in the master of producing at The University of Melbourne, Faculty of Fine Arts and Music (FFAM), VCA Film and Television School. Her PhD research focused on Lyon's practice of film producing using practice led, action research and reflexive inquiry to create a digital archive project. The process evolved into a large-scale digitisation, preservation and access project, whereby she both developed and realised a ‘living’ digital archive for a student film school collection, dating back to 1966. This has enabled widespread access to the VCA Film and Television student film archive, that was otherwise inaccessible. It is now available online in a bespoke digital platform for the Film School and then for the University via Kaltura. A curated collection is publicly accessible for audiences around the world on YouTube. The digital archive is the first moving image archive within the University of Melbourne's Cultural Collections Unit.
