Katie Paine is an artist and writer based in Naarm. Her practice investigates the politics of semiotics: specifically, the role images and language play in constructing narrative. Her practice uses installation, video and speculative fiction to build expanded narrative environments. Her writing practice combines poetry, fictocriticism, science fiction and magical realism. She has exhibited at TCB, Blindside, La Trobe Art Institute, c3 Contemporary Art Space, Kings ARI and Bus Projects. Paine has been published by Art + Australia, Next Wave Festival, Un Projects, Running Dog, Runway Journal, Art Almanac and for a variety of art galleries. She is currently a research candidate in the Masters of Fine Art program at the VCA
